Adobe Dog House Customer Review: Jazzicalpopfolk cello fusion music
I was first exposed to Freudmann’s unconventional cello stylings when my wife heard Gideon’s music on NPR, and put *Adobe Dog House* on her gift list.
Freudmann is an extremely talented cellist,composer and arranger who shows his strengths when working in classical-traditional (`Tuscany’, `Manila Waltz’), or folk-folksy (`Hassidic Jig’) genres. He also has an ability to fuse jazz /pop/classical genres and extrapolate styles effectively (`Baby Calamari’, Over the Rainbow’, `Frogwalking’, `River Skeeters’). He can get fun/funky/whimsical with good effect too (`Adobe Dog House’).
Gideon errs I think, when he insists on exposing his would-be-listeners to his voice and silly lyrics, which the compositions would be better without (`Due Course’, `Geography’, `I am a Disaster’, ‘Rhapsody Hill’,`Cliffwalking’ and ‘Good Old Boy’). For example, he starts out `Cliffwalking` with a Bluegrass melody (Wow–Bluegrass cello!) but ruins it with an insipid and repetitive vocal ditty.
I’ve uploaded the instrumental pieces to my work computer because Freudmann’s music is great as background to `heavy spreadsheet’ work.

Adobe Customer Review: A HUGE surprise
Tony Malaby is someone you should hear, if you haven’t already. With this new disc, his third, I believe, as leader, he comes fully into his own.
Choosing the difficult trio format (sax, bass, drums), with no guitar or piano providing a chordal safety net, only adds chutzpah to an already uniquely developing voice on tenor sax. The revelation here, for me, at least, is Paul Motian. Long a drummer of note, having lead numerous bands including such players as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joe Lovano, and Chris Potter, he brings something special to this music, at once grounding it and setting it free (howzee do that??). Malaby’s approach would seem to favor a younger, more adventurous, downtown-ish player, such as Jeff Ballard or Jim Black or Kenny Wollesen (who was on his last disc). But Motian’s minimalism, wrapped in staggeringly brilliant rhythmic tropes, lends this music such quotidian brilliance as is seldom heard in the world of jazz–or any other music, for that matter.
Drew Gress proves the perfect complement/foil on bass. Quickly becoming one of the very finest younger jazz bassists, he fits in perfectly on this session. Possessed of a deep, very woody tone (a la Charlie Haden, whom he vaguely resembles here, sans the sometimes annoying eccentricities), he adds an entirely apposite bottom to what, with Malaby’s somewhat heady conception, could’ve turned into cloying abstraction. Note also his double stopping and advanced harmonic concept.
One thing that surprised me very much about this disc is how unrelentingly melodic it is. Malaby, known for his avant chops, seems to play it somewhat closer to the vest here, opting for a ravishing, burnished tone, often accompanied by the slightest, most subtle vibrato instead of the virtuoso, note-heavy approach that has more typically been his MO in the past. Indeed, he almost seems to have totally reconfigured his playing. Yes, he can still get cerebral (e.g., “No Brainer” and “Gone,” although even here he clings to a melodically oriented approach), but he usually opts for melodicism over against abstraction. What it amounts to, I guess, is an entirely apposite emotionalism mapped onto (and rather seamlessly and brilliantly, I might add) his already chops-heavy approach. Not the easiest thing to do, but pretty amazing, if you can pull it off, as he does, magnificently.
A must-hear disc from and emerging sax giant.

The Soul is the software contains a fairly decent collection of ebm tracks. Sounds very inspired by earlier Front 242, some trace elements of modern trance and a pinch of goth. Very mechanical, heavy dance beats, arpeggiated bass lines, subtle atmospheres, dark vocals and filtered synth melodies.
Highly recommended for any ebm enthusiast and/or for those especially drawn to Front 242… you should appreciate this one!

Master Microsoft Movie Maker in 60 Minutes In February 2006, my company hosted a public video editing seminar to assist a nonprofit learning center in Eastern Idaho. The comments from this seminar were surprising to say the least and came from people from every walk of life.
After twenty years helping people use technology, I had never seen ordinary people so actively participate and retain the knowledge. Even seniors and young children who could barely type on the computer were able to create their own multimedia masterpieces with little effort and no manuals.
Many wanted follow on classes and wanted to their loved ones to participate in future seminars. Using the base of material from this seminar, my company recorded this video training to help others around the world learn the magic of video editing on their home computers.
Why does the training work? Even with a master’s degree with a concentration in instructional design and technology, I really don’t have all the answers. I just know from the many comments that I received is that many people thought these tools were too complicated or too expensive to learn - and it’s a heck of a lot more interesting to be working with video and special effects for an hour than sitting in a day long class on the basics of word processing.
The truth is that only a few years ago you had to buy special software and hardware to make videos since computers were slow, but today computers are faster and Microsoft has made Movie Maker a free program already included on your Windows XP computer. That’s right free. You just need someone to help you use it. For less than the costs of a family dinner, I’ll show you how to edit video on a home computer.

Customer Review: Not all that great …
Well, I got this for my father’s new setup, he got a Panasonic 37PX60U and I know he needed a decent power supply for it. When I stumbled upon this guy, it was for $80 dollars used, and was a UPS that also advertised “Clean Power: Stage 1″. I worked at Best Buy for half a year, and “Clean Power” is supposed to mean a constant voltage, e.g. surge protection. So I said hey, great deal.
Well, the power went out for the first time and the system powered right off, found to have a defective battery when I called Monster. They were very prompt, not a hassle at all and agreed to replace the unit (though I have to pay shipping on that heavy sucker). But, what the techie told me on the phone is that this is NOT a surge protector. Wha? He said I should have the UPS plugged into a surge protector that is plugged into the wall.
That’s not right. But for the price I got it for (as long as it works next time) the product is stable when on, sleek & modern. However, it does have a relatively small power capacity of 360 watts - which is just enough for a typical Plasma alone.
Again, with this model phasing out, if you can get it for a good deal then by all means grab it. And buy it used because remember that Monster has a 3-5-lifetime warranty on most of their products. Thats value to me.
